A few years after her mother died, Tennie's reputation at school takes a big hit right before the prom. Robert, an advertising executive who has since rebuilt his business, tries to do the same thing with his relationship with his daughter. Overly eager Robert tries very hard to get close to Tennie by showing how he cares in his own unique way. To find out about his daughter's personal life, he hires a new driver/intern who is 19 years old. Jack helps him do this. Tennie, who was raised by her extended family, is very smart and mature for her age, but she also has a sense of humor and a little bit of rebelliousness. Afterwards, Tennie realizes that in order to get her father off of her back, she needs to convince him to find a lady friend.
