Young and talented Han van Meegeren can be a rebel in the Amsterdam art-scene of the 1920. Critics find his work conservative because he paints in the manner of his idols Rembrandt and Vermeer and they call him a copycat. Merely to prove a point, he produces a fake Vermeer and attempts to pass it off. It works. Instead of hence embarrassing the Artworld and showing the truth, he continues to earn money. He is caught in a web of lies and deceit, and his entire life spins out of control. Then one afternoon, high ranking Nazi Hermann Göring knocks on his door, searching for a Vermeer due to his private group...
