California Dreaming
The film California Dreaming takes a look at the peculiar town of California City, which is the third largest city in the state of California when measured by its total land area, but having just roughly 14,000 people call it home. It was grandiosely thought of in the 1950s as a new metropolitan area that would challenge Los Angeles, which is only two hours away, but it is now a little town within a much larger desert ghost town. The documentary follows several residents of the city, one of whom is the blue-collar worker Jean-Paul LeBlanc, who was born in Quebec. The purpose of the film is to examine how the American Dream has evolved over the years by drawing parallels between the American Dream of the 1960s, when the city was founded, and the dreams of those who live there today.
