Anita Minteer, a California adolescent, is dealing with an absentee mother, her mother's abusive boyfriend, Rooney, and a lack of respect from her peers. This all changes when she meets Howard, a convict, through a pen-pal school project. Anita secures Howard's release from prison and then viciously confronts Rooney after he rapes her.
