At the pinnacle of his profession, film director Guido Anselmi is creatively dry. Anselmi is advised by his physicians to relax, so he travels to a magnificent resort. However, his producer, staff, actors, wife, mistress, and relatives all converge at the resort, pleading with him to return to work. In order to escape their dependence, he fantasizes about previous ladies and recalls childhood dreams.
