The Papaya Sisters are two Singaporean girls who form a getai group called the Papaya Sisters. They sing at shows during the seventh lunar month. Big Papaya is estranged from her mother, who doesn't like her performances. Little Papaya, on the other hand, is an orphan who has terminal cancer. Uncle Guan Yin and Aunt Ling help the two. The Durian Sisters, a rival group of techno-singing Eurasian girls, don't like the Durian Sisters because they sing traditional Hokkien songs. The two soon rise to the top of the Singaporean getai scene.
