A Thousand Clowns
Uncle Murray, a Dickensian character akin to Mr. Micawber, takes care of Nick, a 12-year-old boy living with him. What emerges is a social worker who falls in love with Murray and a sliver with Nick. Attempting to mediate between the child protection officials and Murray, the nephew, who had previously taken pleasure in his uncle's iconoclastic approach, tries his best. In the end, though, he is shocked by the uncle's willingness to compromise with society in order to save the connection.
