Abel's Field
A high school senior with a lot on his plate, Seth McArdle (Samuel Davis) is a character in the film. Along with navigating the usual social and academic problems of high school, he also has to deal with his young twin sisters, who are acting as de facto parents in the absence of his deceased mother and unemployed father, as well as his alcoholic stepfather. Seth becomes increasingly frustrated when the bank contacts him with a foreclosure notice, and his annoyances manifest themselves in several altercations with the school football team. Seth is expelled from school by his coach, who assigns him to work after school with Abel, the eccentric groundskeeper (Kevin Sorbo). Their relationship begins cold and rocky, but as the two spend more time together, they learn that they have more in common than either of them had previously imagined possible. The disadvantage is that they are primarily concerned with one other's grief and sadness. The good news is that God loves them.
