Architecture of Infinity

How can structures, which occupy defined, rigid areas of space, elicit feelings of transcendence? How can chapels be transformed into contemplative spaces? How can walls provide unrestricted liberty? Driven by strong childhood memories, director Christoph Schaub travels to extraordinary churches, both ancient and futuristic, and discovers works of art that transport him to the heavens and all the way to the bottom of the sea. With the help of architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli, and lvaro Siza Vieira, artists James Turrell and Cristina Iglesias, and drummer Sergé "Jojo" Mayer, he attempts to make sense of the world and decipher our spiritual experiences through the seemingly abstract concepts of light, time, rhythm, sound, and shape. The superb cinematography elevates this contemplative journey to a multi-sensory experience.
