Artur Schnabel: No Place of Exile
During his time, Austro-German composer and musician Artur Schnabel was one of the most important people in the world. Today, in Germany, he is almost forgotten. Markus Pawlik, a pianist and Schnabel fan, returns to Berlin with a video commemoration concert of Artur Schnabel's best compositions in conjunction with baritone Dietrich Henschel and the Szymanowski String Quartet. It's a journey that takes Pawlik to places where Schnabel's life and music were shaped. "Artur Schnabel: No Place of Exile" brings back an important artist who was displaced by the two World Wars and the Holocaust, but who was also inspired by the possibilities of modernism, so it's a good book to read.
