Bang the Drum Slowly

Pro baseball team from New York and two of its players are told in this book In baseball, Henry Wiggen is the pitcher and Bruce Pearson is the catcher who is not the star player on the team and is a good friend to all of his teammates. Bruce learns that he is dying during the off-season. Henry, Bruce's only real friend, wants to be there for him during his last season with the club. As the season goes on, Henry and his teammates try to deal with Bruce's impending illness while also trying to make his last year a good one for him and for the team.
