Beyond the Call

Russell Gates (David Strahairn) is a Vietnam veteran serving a life sentence for the murder of a police officer. Pam O'Brien (Sissy Spacek), his childhood girlfriend, is taken aback when she learns of this and believes he is incapable of such a crime. She writes to him, to to her husband Keith's chagrin, and gets obsessed with the case, looking into every possible option that the doomed guy might still have. Her marriage and family suffer as a result of her visits to prison.
