Blood Paradise

Best-selling crime novelist Robin Richards (Andréa Winter) is sent to the Swedish countryside by her publisher to rediscover inspiration after her latest novel fails to sell well. She encounters a variety of bizarre personalities while she is there alone, including her driver and most ardent admirer, his explosively jealous wife, and the man who owns the farm where she is staying, who becomes increasingly deranged as time goes on. Robin, who is completely out of place in her new surroundings (for example, she is constantly dressed for beautiful, big-city life), learns the hard way just how dangerous these oddballs can be. In this surprising debut feature from Patrick von Barkenberg (who also appears as Robin's boyfriend), the film is steeped in dreamy atmospherics and streaked with quirky humor, yet it remains grounded throughout thanks to the performance of Winter, who maintains your attention throughout.
