In southeast Sicily's Valley of Temples, Professor Malcolm Evans leads his archaeological expedition. Liza Harris, his companion and former pupil, is looking forward to her first dig. Liza, though, feels an odd affinity for the valley, and her recurring dreams appear to be firmly linked to the adjacent ruins. She is attracted to the ruins of a 16th-century monastery and its gruesome crucifixion narrative. Liza's fixation with learning the truth drives her deeper into the forbidden ruins and further from sanity, as the local people rise up to safeguard their ancestors' entombed secrets.
