The being can be detected and befriended by a boy called Elliott, after a gentle alien becomes stranded on Earth. Bringing the extra-terrestrial into his suburban California house, Elliott introduces E.T., since the unknown is dubbed, into his brother along with his small sister, Gertie, and also the youngsters opt to keep its existence a secret.
