First Light

In May1940, Geoffrey 'Geoff'/'Boy' Wellum, aged18, joins the RAF, becoming the youngest ever Spitfire pilot. He quickly bonds with his squadron's flying guys after undergoing rigorous training. On the ground, alcohol, sports, and girls (in Geoff's case, Sarah) bring enormous consolation. But the casualties take a toll on his mental health, and his tour of service ends after 18 months.
