Poppy Wakefield, a free-lance writer based in rural England, begins the story in the spring of 2014. Suddenly, her life takes a turn for the worst when she realizes that her husband Stephen has been cheating on her. She seeks solace in a George Clooney television program while still reeling from her betrayal. Poppy sees George as everything her husband isn't: intelligent, amusing, charming, and someone who truly cares about making a difference in the world. While visiting her friend Justin in Los Angeles, Poppy receives a well-timed invitation to meet George, whom she has no doubt they will fall in love with at first sight if they do meet. Poppy's romantic ideal is brought crashing back to reality by a shocking announcement. At first, Poppy's adjustment to her new life in LA is a series of comical mishaps and unrelated escapades. But one day, a highly unexpected twist in the plot comes to light...
