Into the Woods
Many well-known fairy tales are used in Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods to tell a story about family, love, growing up, and the gray area between right and wrong. Directed by Timothy Sheader, this show was filmed live at London's Regents Park Open Air Theater. This movie is based on Brothers Grimm stories, but it gives them a dark and funny look. The popular stories of Red Riding Hood, Jack, Cinderella, and Rapunzel are all mixed in with the Baker and his Wife's story and their quest to have a child, too. Because the characters are in new situations and their hopes and dreams are re-examined, this re-telling goes beyond "happily ever after."
