Adapted from the 1951 non-fiction account by psychoanalyst Georges Devereux,"Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian," the film follows the real story of Picard (Del Toro), a Plains Indian of the Blackfeet state, because he returns from WWII and starts experiencing untoward symptoms briefly thereafter. He travels into the famous Winter Hospital at Topeka, Kansas, where he matches Devereux (Amalric), thus beginning a skilled and personal friendship led by compassion and knowledge of Native American civilization.
