Karbala

April 2004, throughout the break of Ashurarebels loyal to Shiite leader Muktada As-Sadr, launched an insurgency. The Poles, along with troops and Iraqi authorities, were given the task of protecting City Hall, directed by Lieutenant colonel Grzegorz Kaliciak. The conflict developed to the Polish involvement. Maybe not a single soldier died, but about 80 insurgents were killed in a counter attack.
