King Rat
When Singapore surrendered to the Japanese in 1942, the Allied POWs, mostly British but including a few Americans, were incarcerated in Changi prison. There were not any walls or barbed wire fences to the very simple reason that there wasn't any place for the prisoners. Contained among the prisoners is that the American Cpl. King, a wheeler dealer who has had to established a pretty good life for himself in the camp. While the majority of the prisoners are close starvation and have uniforms that come in tatters, King eats and also contains clean clothes to wear every day. King soon forms a friendship with Lt. Peter Marlowe, an upper class British officer who's fascinated with King's élan method of life.
