Matewan

Shot in the coal country of West Virginia, "Matewan" commemorates labor organizing in the context of a 1920s work stoppage. Union coordinator, Joe Kenehan, a scab called "Couple of Clothing" Johnson and a considerate mayor and authorities chief heroically combat the power stood for by a coal company and Matewan's vested interests so that justice and also workers' civil liberties need not take a back seat to squalid working conditions, exploitation as well as the bottom line.
