Original Cast Album: Company
The cast album for "Company," the musical by Stephen Sondheim, was traditionally recorded on the Sunday after the show's opening night in the spring of 1970. The now-iconic documentarian D.A. Pennebaker documented the making of the original cast recording, including the interactions between Sondheim and the cast members and the challenges of recording a live performance. Elaine Stritch's rendition of "The Ladies Who Lunch" serves as the film's climax. After two successful years on Broadway, the production was deemed the best musical of the year and received six Tony Awards. The "Original Cast Album" film franchise was supposed to be made, but it was never made.
