In a sequestered commune along side additional children, their mothers, and magnetic leader, Gregori , 11-year-old Alexander lives on the boundary of a city. Gregori teaches the youngsters how to raise livestock, grow vegetables, work as a community - and to kill. Alexander begins to question the overwhelming influence of Gregori on the kiddies and their practice with the arrival of a new baby brother weighing on his head. Threatened by his own unwillingness Gregori's behavior turns inconsistent and adversarial toward the kid he considered a kid. With the two set dangerously at odds and the commune's way of life the residents fear that a resolution is in hand.
