Return to the Wild: The Chris McCandless Story
In 1996, a young American hiker named Chris McCandless was found dead in an abandoned bus in the Alaskan wilderness. He was the son of successful middle-class parents who made a good living. His story became the subject of the best-selling book and movie "Into the Wild." When Chris McCandless left his home, he cut all ties with his past, burned or gave away his money, took a new name, and set off into the Denali Wilderness. Now, PBS is going back through his steps to try to figure out why. For the first time, McCandless' own letters and interviews with people who were surprised by them look into the mystery that still lingers at the heart of a story that has become a part of the American literary canon and still draws people in today.
