In 2009, Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari was covering Iran elections for Newsweek. One of those reporters residing in the united states with access he seemed on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, in a taped interview with comedian Jason Jones. The interview was first intended as satire, but if the joke was got by the Tehran government they did not want it and it would immediately returned again to haunt Bahari when he had been rousted from his home and thrown in prison. Making his directorial debut, Jon Stewart tells the tale of Bahari's months-long imprisonment and interrogation in this potent and upsetting docudrama with a potent and performance by Gael García Bernal recounting Bahari's efforts to keep his expectation and his sanity in the face of isolation and persecution-through memories of his loved ones, recollections of the music he loves, and thoughts of his wife and unborn child.
