Sayonara

Air Force Major Lloyd Gruver (Marlon Brando) is reassigned to some Western airbase, also is faced with US racial prejudice against the Western folks. The matter is compounded because some of those soldiers eventually become involved in defiance of all US military policy, with Japanese women. Ordinarily an officer who is bythebook, Gruver has to take a position when a buddy of his, an enlisted man Joe Kelly (Red Buttons) falls deeply in love with a Western woman Katsumi (Miyoshi Umeki) and marries her. Gruver threats his position by simply functioning as best man.
