Shoah
In this 912 hour documentary on the Holocaust, Claude Lanzmann did not use a single frame of archive film during the production process. A number of Nazis and Holocaust survivors speak with him, as do witnesses and former Nazis (whom he had to film secretly since they only agreed to be interviewed by audio). It is his method of interviewing that is effective in that it obtains the most minute facts, which when added together create an appalling portrayal of the events leading up to the Holocaust perpetrated by the Nazis. He also demonstrates, or rather allows some of his subjects to demonstrate, that the anti-Semitism that resulted in the deaths of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust is still alive and well among many individuals who live in Germany, Poland, and other parts of Europe today.
