The Bravados
The CinemaScope picture was based on a book of the identical name written by Frank O'Rourke. Jim Douglas (Gregory Peck) is just a rancher that has been chasing the 4 outlaws who killed his wife for 6 months. He slides to town of Rio Arriba, at which four men, Alfonso Parral (Lee Van Cleef), Bill Zachary (Stephen Boyd), Ed Taylor (Albert Salmi) and also Lujan (Henry Silva), fitting the description have been in prison awaiting execution, so he is able to observe the hanging. Town has issued guidelines to only permit the hangman (Joe DeRita) to enter, so Jim is taken to Sheriff Eloy Sanchez's (Herbert Rudley) office to state his organization. Town has never needed an execution before, so they have brought into a man from outside town to accomplish the job. Jim is allowed by the sheriff into the jail to see the men. They claim that they hadn't ever seen him earlier, but he gets a hunter's face.
