The Holy Mountain
A Mexican master contributes also other disciples along with a Christ figure to a mountain of wise men. The scandal of this 1973 Cannes Film Festival, writer/director Alejandro Jodorowsky's flooding of sacrilegious imagery and symbolism in The Holy Mountain is a spiritual quest for enlightenment pitting illusion contrary to truth. The Alchemist (Jodorowsky) builds together a set of individuals from all walks of life to represent the planets in the solar system. The goal of the occult adept is to place his recruits before embarking on a trip to Lotus 29, and divest them of their worldly luggage. There they ascend the gods that rule the entire universe to be displaced by the Holy Mountain.
