The Honorary Consul

The story follows half-English, half-Latino Dr. Eduardo Plarr, who left his home in search of a better life in a small, politically insecure Latin American country. Along the way, he meets a diverse group of characters, including British Consul Charley Fortnum, a representative in Latin America who is attempting to prevent revolution. He's also an alcoholic with a history of guilt. Clara is another lady the doctor meets and falls in love with right away, but there's a catch: Clara is Charley's wife.
