The Last Days on Mars

Over the last afternoon of the first manned mission to Mars, a crew member of Tantalus Base considers he has made an astonishing discovery evidence of life. Unwilling to allow the relief crew asserts all of the glory, he disobeys orders to package up and is out on an expedition that is unmanned to collect additional samples. However a regular excavation turns to disaster once the porous earth collapses and he drops into a death. His devastated colleagues attempt to recoup his entire body. When another fades, they start to assume that the life-form they've discovered is not without danger.
