The Outsider

Michael Flaherty, played by Craig Wasson, is an American soldier of the Vietnam War who is of Irish origin. He travels to Belfast in order to contribute to the cause that his grandpa, Seamus, championed (Sterling Hayden). As time goes by, he discovers that his native land does not treat him with the same level of warmth and acceptance as he had anticipated it would. Worse yet, he is the intended victim of an assassination plot hatched by the Irish Republican Army (IRA). This scheme aims to damage the reputation of the British military in order to gain financial backing from affluent Americans.
