The Shootout
The Shootout is an early-nineties action comedy that features a large number of Hong Kong film stars. Aaron Kwok, a pop star, portrays Fai, a relatively young and inexperienced cop who captures a member of a theft gang by accident. However, Fai loses his collar when the gang's ruthless leader (Elvis Tsui) infiltrates Police HQ in order to kill his own colleague! The police call in two "specialist" officers, Lau (Sean Lau Ching Wan) and Ma (Leung Ka Yan), to assist in capturing the criminals. Fai is drawn to Min (Fennie Yuen), a club singer who is also the girlfriend of the ringleader of the criminals. Min aids the police in their investigation. The police gather just in time for a violent conclusion, thanks to exemplary police work and perhaps some luck. The Shootout is highlighted by gritty brutality and thrilling, over-the-top action, but it's the dynamic actors and quick-witted humor that keep the film entertaining.
