Time of the Wolves

The criminal, played by Robert Hossein and modeled after the American gangster John Dillinger, is being pursued by the inspector, played by Charles Aznavour, a buddy from the inspector's boyhood. The killer is cornered through a combination of intense gunfights and clever psychological manipulation. Stella, his lover, is the only person he allows himself to be vulnerable around (Virna Lisi). Dillinger is trapped by the police, and during the ensuing gunfight, he takes the lives of several innocent people who were there in the crowd. When the man in danger runs out of shots, the mob makes the decision to take matters into their own hands by approaching him with a noose to put him to death.
