Blue's Clues
Blue's Clues is an American children's TV show that started on September 8, 1996, on the cable network Nickelodeon. It ended on August 6, 2006, after running for ten years. Angela Santomero, Todd Kessler, and Traci Paige Johnson, the show's producers, used new animation and production techniques and ideas from child development and early childhood education to make a show that helped kids learn. It was first hosted by Steve Burns, who left in 2002 to pursue a career in music. Donovan Patton took over after that. Burns was an important part of the show's success, and rumors about his leaving showed that it had become a cultural phenomenon. Blue's Clues was a big part of Nickelodeon's growth because it was the most popular show for preschoolers on American commercial TV. It has been called "one of the most popular, well-reviewed, and innovative preschool TV shows of all time." In 2004, a spin-off called Blue's Room started airing. The show's producers and writers used a story format instead of the more common magazine format. They also used repetition to reinforce the lessons, and every episode was set up in the same way. In the 30 years since Sesame Street first aired in the U.S., researchers have studied how children grow up and what they like to watch. They changed the genre by getting the audience involved. Research was an important part of making decisions and coming up with ideas for the show. It was used in every step and part of the creative process. Blue's Clues was the first cutout animation show for preschoolers. It looked like a storybook because it used primary colors and simple shapes made out of construction paper that looked like everyday things. It was set in a home, which was familiar to American kids, but it looked different from other shows for kids. Starting in 1999, a live production of Blue's Clues that used many of the show's creators' production innovations toured the U.S. By 2002, more than 2 million people had seen more than 1,000 shows.
