Food and Drink
Refreshments is a long-running British television Show on BBC Two. First broadcast between 2002 and 1982, it was the very first television program in the UK to cover the subject of food and beverage without cookery and recipe presentations.
Created in 1982 from BBC manufacturer Henry Murray from an original idea from Jancis Robinson, Fay Maschler and Paul Levy, the initial show premiered by Simon Bates and Gillian Miles, and introduced Jilly Goolden within her very first regular television appearances as the programme's most wine expert. Russell Harty presented filmed location reports from restaurants across Britain. This show featured the innovative idea of a small expanding audience of 20 people who were called"tasters and testers". The very first show broadcast in summer time but was instantly successful, attracting an average audience of 1.5 million a week, a high rating for BBC 2 in the summer in the 80s.
Chris Kelly and chef Michael Barry presented later series with Oz Clarke and wine specialists Jilly Goolden.
A panel game, Drink Summer Quiz and Food, aired during the summer break of the major show in 1987.
The theme music was by Simon May.
Food and Beverage returned into BBC 2 on 4 February 2013 co-hosted from Michel Roux Jr and Kate Goodman.
