Invader Zim
Jhonen Vasquez is the American animator responsible for the TV series Invader Zim. On March 30, 2001, the show debuted on Nickelodeon. From his home planet of Irk, an alien by the name of Zim embarks on a never-ending quest to destroy Earth. Many of Zim's attempts to conquer and kill humanity are thwarted by a mixture of his own incompetence, GIR, his malfunctioning robot servant, and a young paranormal investigator named Dib, who is one of the few individuals paying attention enough to know Zim's true identity. The first season of Invader Zim, which was aimed towards preteens and received positive reviews, was followed by a steady fall in viewership. Nickelodeon terminated the show before the end of its second season, leaving unaired at least twenty-three episodes and a planned television movie series finale. Despite only having a pilot, 46 aired episodes, and about 17 in production at the time of cancellation, the show has retained a cult following. All forty-six episodes were broadcast on television by August19, 2006. For nineteen of the programs, we get two stories totaling roughly twelve minutes. The eight episodes are each twice as long as the rest. Besides the pilot, which Jordan Reichek helmed, Steve Ressel directed every single episode.
