Invisible Heroes
The book "Invisible Heroes" recounts the courageous actions of a group of young Finnish diplomats serving in Chile at the time of the notorious military revolution in 1973. Over two thousand left-leaning Chileans were able to flee the persecution of the military dictatorship with the assistance of Finnish ambassadors Tapani Brotherus, Ilkka Jaamala, and Tapani Brotherus's wife, Lysa Brotherus. While Swedish ambassador Harald Edelstam was the most famous defendant of human rights and had the support of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, the Finns acted without official authority.
