Kavanagh QC
Between 1995 and 2001, Central Television produced Kavanagh QC for ITV. Series 1-6 are available on Region 2 DVDs and are frequently repeated on ITV3. The show starred John Thaw as barrister James Kavanagh QC, who grew up in Bolton, Greater Manchester. This is only revealed in later episodes as his parents' health deteriorates and during a conversation with a colleague who mistakenly believes Kavanagh is a Yorkshireman. The show focused on his legal battles as well as his domestic dramas, such as the death of his devoted and affectionate wife. Later, he begins dating another barrister. In court, Kavanagh is typically seen defending a client who appears to be convicted until a twist in the case occurs, but he is occasionally seen prosecuting. The main plot frequently features Kavanagh confronting cases with a subtext of racism, sexism, or other prejudice. The pomposity and self-absorption of Jeremy, a posh barrister in chambers, provided comic relief in subplots. Kavanagh will not tolerate injustice and will not be intimidated by threats or bribes from his adversaries in the courtroom.
