Linebarrels of Iron
Linebarrels of Iron is a Japanese manga series developed by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi. In 2005, the series was first serialized in Akita Shoten's monthly shnen manga magazine, Champion Red. It has now been compiled into eleven tankbon as of November 20, 2008. The plot revolves around Kouichi Hayase, a fourteen-year-old kid who leads a boring existence until an accident transforms him into the pilot of a massive robot named "Linebarrel" and leads him to meet a fascinating girl. An anime adaptation of the manga series was announced in the February issue of Animage magazine. Masamitsu Hidaka directed the anime, and Gonzo animated it. Though the first episode debuted at the 2008 Anime Expo in Southern California, the series launched in Japan on the television network TBS on October3, 2008. The anime ran a total of twenty-four episodes, the last of which aired on March 20, 2009. To mark the series' anime adaptation, Shimizu and Shimoguchi decided to make a one-shot manga reproducing the whole first episode of the anime, with the plot differing in many ways from the manga's opening.
