Maude
Maude is an American television sitcom that aired on the CBS network from September12, 1972 until April22, 1978. Maude stars Bea Arthur as Maude Findlay, an opinionated, middle-aged, politically liberal woman who lives with her fourth husband, home appliance company owner Walter Findlay, in suburban Tuckahoe, Westchester County, New York. Maude believed in women's liberation, consistently voted for Democratic Party politicians, supported legal abortion, and pushed for civil rights, racial and gender equality. Her outspoken and occasionally dictatorial nature, on the other hand, frequently led her into difficulty when she spoke out on these matters. The show was a spin-off of All in the Family, on which Beatrice Arthur originally appeared as Maude, Edith Bunker's cousin; Maude, like All in the Family, was a sitcom with topical plots written by producer Norman Lear. Several episodes featured simply Maude and Walter, which was unusual for a US sitcom, and amounted to half-hour "two-hander" teleplays. "The Analyst" was Bea Arthur's solo episode in Season4, where she delivered an episode-length monologue to an unseen psychotherapist.
