Maverick
Roy Huggins developed the comedy-western Maverick. James Garner played cardsharp Bret Maverick on the ABC sitcom from September 22, 1957 until July 8, 1962. Eight episodes into the first season, Jack Kelly joined him as his brother Bart. From then on, Garner and Kelly swapped protagonists, sometimes teaming up for two-brother episodes. The Mavericks were Texas poker players who traversed the Old West and Mississippi riverboats, getting into life-threatening trouble with money, ladies, or both. They'd evaluate a windfall against a moral dilemma. Both Mavericks were ethical, thus their consciences often overruled their finances. Roger Moore replaced James Garner as Beau Maverick after he quit the show due to a legal disagreement. Robert Colbert played Brent Maverick in season four. Only one or two series leads appeared in the same episode.
