Punishment
Punishment is a Australian television soap opera.
Place at a men's prison, the series attempted to present a form of the successful soap Prisoner. Punishment was seen by attempts by the show's makers to differentiate the series from Prisoner. Nevertheless, good figures were not attracted by the formula. Network Ten deemed the newest series a failure after just three episodes choose to go to air, and it was removed from the programs. The rest of the 26 episodes were shown out-of-ratings after that season. Searching for a soap opera, the series was taped using precisely the same camera technique.
The routine cast featured noteworthy celebrities such as Barry Crocker, Brian Wenzel, Michael Preston, Ross Thompson, Anne Haddy, George Spartels, Cornelia Frances, Lisa Peers and Julie McGregor. Mel Gibson played a prisoner in the very first incident. Kris McQuade and the girl friend of Gibson's character played with and has been phased out of the series thanks to Gibson's passing. The programme has been produced and directed by Alan Coleman.
