Roots
The epic tale of winning author Alex Haley's ancestors as portrayed in the thirty hour miniseries Roots, was told in his 1976 best-seller Roots: The Saga of the American Family. The docudrama covers a time period of history which finishes during post-Civil War United States, over 100 years after and begins in Gambia, West Africa. This 1977 mini series finally won 9 Emmy awards, a Golden Globe award, and a Peabody award, but still stands as the most watched miniseries at U.S. history.
