Smash is an American play television series created by playwright Theresa Rebeck and developed by Robert Greenblatt for NBC. Steven Spielberg functioned as one of the executive producers. NBC broadcast in the US the series and produced by Universal Television and DreamWorks Television. The series revolves around the introduction of a new Broadway musical and a fictional New York theater community. It features a large ensemble cast, headed Christian Borle, Jack Davenport, Katharine McPhee, by Debra Messing, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, and Anjelica Huston.
The show debuted on February 6, 2012, and its first season ended on May 14, 2012. Its second and final season ended on May 26, 2013 and premiered on February 5, 2013. NBC announced a change in their lineup at March 2013 and moved the show into Saturdays starting. The series had been cancelled on May 10, 2013. Second and final year senior producer/show runner Josh Safran stated as a series finale, should the string not be revived the final episode of year might work.
