Spooks: Code 9
Spooks: Code 9 is a drama about counterintelligence that aired on BBC Three in 2008. Jane Tranter, who is in charge of BBC Fiction, wanted to make a spin-off of their long-running drama Spooks with a "more rebellious, younger perspective" that would appeal to people aged 16 to 24. The show is about six young people who join MI5 and "follow a different rule book." It was made by an independent company called Kudos, and it was shot in and around the cities of Leeds and Bradford. The first two episodes were shown on BBC Three on August 10, 2008, and then again on August 11, 2008, on the same channel. It was a controversial choice to link the new project to the original Spooks. Actress Georgia Moffett said, "It's a little misleading to use the word Spooks." Chris Fry, the show's producer, said "This show is totally new. There are no characters or stories that cross over, and most importantly, it takes place in a whole new world." After the first season didn't do very well, the show's executive producer, Karen Wilson, said that many of the existing cast members were "contracted for another year" and listed some ideas for what they could do in a second season.
