The Cost of Winning
In 2018, a nearly 200-year-old Catholic school in a neighborhood with a lot of gun violence and poverty became both a source of pride and controversy. The Panthers football team was kicked out of their private school league because they were "too good," which raised questions about racial bias. The team found itself without a league to play in, so they made their own schedule. They traveled across the country in search of the best competition and the chance to show off their players as they tried to get athletic scholarships.
