The Joy of Painting
It was an American television show called "The Joy of Painting," and it was hosted by the artist Bob Ross. The show instructed its viewers in the skills of landscape oil painting. The audience were not going to learn how to "fast paint," even though Ross could finish a painting in thirty minutes. That was not the point of the show. Instead, he envisioned that viewers would walk away from the presentation having picked up particular skills within the confines of the allocated time for the show. The first episode of the show aired on January 11, 1983, and the final episode aired on May 17, 1994, exactly one year before Ross passed away.
