The Ren & Stimpy Show
The Ren & Stimpy Show, which is often just called Ren & Stimpy, is an American animated TV show made by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi. The first episode of the show aired on Nickelodeon on August 11, 1991, with Rugrats and Doug. The show is about the two main characters, Ren Hoek, an emotionally unstable chihuahua, and Stimpson J. Cat, a nice, but not very smart, cat. There were five seasons of the show on the network. During and after its run, the show was praised by critics and gained a cult following. Some critics say it paved the way for satirical animated shows like Beavis and Butthead and South Park and had a big impact on television animation. During its run, The Ren & Stimpy Show was controversial because of its crude humor, sexual hints, and violence, all of which led to fights between the show's production staff and Nickelodeon's Standards and Practices department. Ren & Stimpy's "Adult Party Cartoon," a spin-off for adults, was shown on Spike in2003, but it didn't last long.
